U.S. Colored Troops Living Historians
What we do: Our living history group portrays the "First Louisiana" Corps d'Afrique regiments (73rd & 97th USCI and the 4th USCC) from 1863-1866. We provide presentations, first-person narratives, and bring historical artifacts and reproductions to classrooms, libraries, community events, historical parks, and Civil War reenactments.
Our participants live throughout the southwest and participate in a variety of ways. We share a common interest in U.S. Colored Troops in American history and enjoy sharing the story with others. Our presentations represent the contributions of many others including the 24,000 Louisiana USCT soldiers, and the more than 180,000 soldiers in USCT regiments during the War of Rebellion, their families, support personnel, Black newspaper correspondents, and other contributors to the war effort to abolish slavery and bring about equal rights in the 19th century. |
